Feasibility Study and Detailed Designs for the Millennium Highway and West Coast Road Upgrading Project
The Millennium Highway and West Coast Road are part of St. Lucia’s primary road network. From its intersection with Cul de Sac, the Millennium Highway forms a continuous link to the West Coast Road. The West Coast Road is the sole access to several communities and critical services along the west coast of St. Lucia and plays an important part in St. Lucia’s tourism product. Approximately 40.2 km of road infrastructure including bridges along this continuous route terminating in Soufriere, are earmarked for rehabilitation, to improve road safety and enhance the route’s resilience to climate induced hazards such as flooding events and landslides. Geology, topography and maintenance factors also contribute to the vulnerability of the road infrastructure assets. The engineering interventions proffered to rehabilitate the road infrastructure and improve their resilience, were informed among other factors by the output of precedent studies and analyses carried out by FDL and its associates/sub-consultants- economic
and technical feasibility assessment; climate risk and vulnerability assessment; traffic analysis; stakeholders’ views; road condition assessment; hydrological and hydraulic analysis; geotechnical assessment; environmental and social impact assessment.
